"Doble" passord
Hos mange brukere må man taste inn passordet to ganger, gjerne forskjellig begge gangene.

Office 2000 SR1

WHAT FOLLOWS ARE the newsgroup topics that are generating the most response in the last week. With the help of KeyLabs, we are in the process of validating these bugs, and as soon as we know more, we will issue BugNet Alerts. (Note: Microsoft is a partner on MSNBC). In the meantime, here are BugNet’s Top 10 reasons you do not want to install the Office 2000 SR-1.
10. Access denied when running SR-1 as administrator. During the installation of SR-1 on Windows NT, you might receive an error message stating that a particular directory cannot be accessed and that you should log on as administrator. All this happens despite the fact that you are logged in as administrator and once you cancel the SR-1 installation you do have access to the inaccessible directory.
9. Find on Page (CTRL-F) does not work with Internet Explorer 5.01 and Windows 2000 Professional and Advanced Server.
8. Internet installation of SR-1 requests “Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Setup Disk.” During the SR-1 installation, the installer requests your Office 2000 CD. Immediately after verifying this CD, the installer requests the SR-1 installation disk. Since you are installing from the Internet, it is impossible to provide the installer with the disk. No “browse” option is available, and if you select Cancel, the installer backs you completely out of the installation. There are rumors that this is due in part to Microsoft’s anti-piracy scheme. Others say it has something to do with invalid CD keys. Still, bona fide Office 2000 users are reporting this problem. Some users have had workaround success using illegitimate CD keys acquired from Internet crack sites. We will probably be hearing more about this.
7. Outlook 2000 can no longer find and use Word as its e-mail editor.
6. Dialup Networking connections no longer show on the task bar.
5. ActiveSync on Windows CE devices no longer works with Outlook 2000. After installing SR-1, some Windows CE users are unable to synchronize with Outlook 2000. The problem persists even after uninstalling/reinstalling Office 2000 and ActiveSync.
4. Some Internet Explorer users are experiencing an SR-1 download problem. The message, “Error: This catalog cannot be displayed. Try Again”, is displayed. The funny thing is that Netscape Navigator works without a hitch.
3. Outlook Express doesn’t start after SR-1. You might receive one of the following two error messages: “Failed to initialize MSOE.DLL” or “Outlook Express could not be started. This application was unable to open the Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full. Contact Microsoft Support for further assistance. (0x8007007E, 126) ” 2. “Open link in new browser” feature does not work with Internet Explorer 5.01. That’s right, basic IE features are having difficulty with SR-1. This problem seems to be localized on Windows 2000 platforms.
And the No. 1 reason to forgo Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release-1 update: Office applications exit a few seconds after opening. Like #8 above, this appears to be a product key problem. Editing the registry and removing the product key has produced limited success with some users. Doing this allows the update to prompt for the key during the installation. Other solutions involve resetting registry security permissions. From the looks of it, Windows 2000 is having the hardest time with the Office 2000 SR-1 patch. While we have seen problems on all platforms, the bulk of them are zeroing in on W2K. BugNet will continue to research these problems, and when we positively identify them, you’ll be the first to know.

Sikkerhetshull i Microsoft produkter
March 8, 2000 - The L0pht discovered a buffer overrun condition in Microsoft?s ClipArt Gallery Live Update that could allow an intruder to gain control over a remote machine. Because clipart updates can be received from sites other than Microsoft, a malicious Web site operator may be able to launch an exploit against an unsuspecting user.
Microsoft has issued a patch that corrects the problem. If you have any of the products listed below in use on your system or network, then be sure to update your software immediately. Visit our Web site for complete details regarding this matter.link til ntsecurity

Microsoft Changes Win2K Server RAM Requirements Last week, Microsoft advised editors reviewing Windows 2000 Server (Win2K Server) and Windows 2000 Advanced Server (Win2K AS) that the reviewers guide for Win2K Server and Win2K AS contained incorrect information about system requirements; the system requirements appear to have grown since the last time Microsoft told us about them. The new figures for Win2K Server are: CPU: 133MHz or faster Pentium-compatible RAM: 256MB recommended minimum (though Microsoft will support 128MB) HD: 2GB with a minimum of 1GB free (you'll need more free space for network install and for pagefile space—see note below) Win2K AS has the same minimum requirements, but it supports up to eight CPUs in a multiprocessor configuration (Win2K Server tops out at four), and up to 8GB of RAM (Win2K Server tops out at 4GB). What's striking about this change is that the memory requirement has doubled. Although Microsoft will support users running Win2K Server or Win2K AS with 128MB of RAM, the company no longer recommends it. That echoes my experience with Win2K Pro, which really needs more than the required 64MB to minimize disk swapping. Remember that Win2K is built on the Windows NT kernel, and NT has always benefited from extra RAM—so do yourself a favor, and don't skimp on memory.
